Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)

Drove up today. Made it back up the road in 6 hours and 15 minutes, stopping once for gas. Roads were really quiet so got a good run at it. It really is amazing the British countryside, and even more so when you hit the lakes and then southern Scotland. And this is from the motorway!

Got a bit of a weekend planned with some of the old guard in Glasgow. Should be good.

London Calling

Well a lot has happened since I last got in touch.

We drove down to London on Sunday August the 26th. It took about 8 hours but it meant we could take a bit more stuff. When we arrived we got the keys to the flat we have complimentary for a month. Well it isnt the greatest of places. No cooker or washing machine. But its free. We are looking for our own flat as soon as possible.

On the Monday we decided to do some touristy stuff and went to the Tate Modern. London is so busy, and full of tourists! Its ok, but we were too tired to enjoy it fully. So we went for a drink and something to eat with some friends.

On Tuesday Caroline started work. I went out to Fulham to look for flats, and to see the area. Its very nice. A lot like Glasgow. Which is good. Registered with some people but nothing really came of it. Went for a drink with some more friends. Anything to stay out of the flat.

Today is Wednesday and its a bit of a drag. Went to an Internet place to check mail and for flats, and where Im writing this. Going home tomorrow to finish some freelance work. Home!

The Pretender

Along with 'The Pretender' being one of the best Foo Fighters tracks to date I went to see them last night at Meadowbank stadium.

Getting there was a mission. After negiotiating some dreary rundown areas of outskirts Edinburgh we found our way there via Princes Street.

Silversun Pickups sounded good, but didnt really hear too much of them. Did get a free CD outside the venue though!

Then the might of Nine Inch Nails took to the stage. It started out with the intro to Year Zero, 'Hyperpower', with just Trent on keyboards and then they powered into an amazing set. The first time I have seen NIN and they are amazing. So much power and energy. And they killed it. They really did.

The Foo Fighters had a lot to live upto after that performance and after a lengthy wait in some rain they took to the stage. Opening with Everlong on a solo guitar Dave commanded the stage. Shame that everyone decided to mill about and start yakking away when they played. So we moved back a bit and got a better view. I now hate stadium gigs. But the setlist was good. A mixture of old and new. Some good older ones like Breakout, Generator, Mokey Wrench and then some of the newer stuff like Best Of You, All My Life and ended with The Pretender. A storming track live. Sure to be the opener at any of their future gigs.

You can see some photos on flickr here.

And then we tried to leave Edinburgh! Ended up in Musslebrough by the sea! Finally found the bt-pass and headed home. Edinburgh is gay.
